In 2011 BOOM was commissioned to produce “GT Academy: The Road to Dubai”, a spin off series of 23 x 12min programmes, to be broadcast in over 42 countries on the Eurosport network. It was created to increase awareness of the concept and follow the three GT Academy winners as they train to race together at The Dubai 24 Hour Race in January 2012.
The series was filmed in more than 10 countries around Europe, Asia and North America and follows the success of our GT Academy winners Lucas Ordonez and Jordan Tresson who will join 2011 winner Jann Mardenborough to make a full Nissan PlayStation team for the Dubai race. It tracks their seasons in their respective categories around Europe, Jann and Jordan driving a 370z racer car and Lucas driving a prototype with a Nissan engine. The series starts at the beginning of the season and continues through one of the biggest races in the world, Le Mans, culminating in the ultimate goal, The Dubai 24 Hour Race.
The series gained an audience of 1 million viewers a week on the Eurosport network and was also shown on the Eurosport website and on the official GT Academy Facebook page.
GT Academy Road to Dubai joins the successful portfolio of Nissan Europe, sitting alongside “Sofa to Pro” and “GT Academy”.
